25th Congress of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament

Berlin, 11–15 August 2025

The Faculty of Theology at the Humboldt-University of Berlin is honored to host the 25th congress of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament (IOSOT), which is scheduled for August 11–15, 2025. In conjunction with this meeting, Berlin will also be hosting the congresses of the International Organization for Masoretic Studies (IOMS), the International Organization for Septuagint and Cognate Studies (IOSCS), the International Organization for Qumran Studies (IOQS), the International Organization for Vulgate Studies (IOVS), and the International Syriac Language Project (ISLP).

IOSOT is dedicated to academic excellence and diversity. The congress is open to all who are interested in the scientific study of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and adjacent fields. Papers can and will be held in English, German, or French.

The congress is organized by the local committee in Berlin, and the program has been discussed by the IOSOT board which is identical to the Vetus Testamentum editorial board. The current secretary general of IOSOT is Professor Annette Schellenberg from the University of Vienna, Austria.

Call for Short Papers

The call for short papers at the IOSOT 2025 in Berlin (August 11–15, 2025) is now open. Applicants can propose short papers (20 minutes) to be presented in the following panels covering the main fields of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel.

  • Latter Prophets
  • Writings
  • Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature
  • Dead Sea Scrolls
  • Theology, Ethics, and Hermeneutics of the Hebrew Bible
  • Reception History
  • Archaeology of Ancient Israel and the Southern Levant
  • History of Ancient Israel within the Ancient Near East
  • Religions of Ancient Israel and the Ancient Near East

Furthermore, the following specialized panels on recent research questions also accept short paper proposals. More information on these panels is available on the following subpages. The panel hosts will review proposals for short papers to be presented in these panels.

To propose a short paper, applicants should fill out the proposal form provided on our website and send it to iosot2025@hu-berlin.de. The deadline to submit a proposal is December 15, 2024.
