This meeting will focus on describing an experience of Jewish rebirth. The ancient Italian scribal tradition
is considered one of the most interesting and rich. By the 16th century, the most intricate known illuminated Ketubbot and Esther scrolls were produced in Italy.
As scribes copied Sifrè Torà, Tefillin and Mezuzot (STaM), noted rabbinic authorities examined them
and investigated their halakhic precepts. During the period of Emancipation, the practice was abruptly
interrupted. We will discuss the restoration of specific techniques and forms of writing in the context of the current rebirth of the Italian Jewish scribal tradition.
