EAJS World Congress of Jewish Studies 2017 Bursary Programme
The 17th World Congress of Jewish Studies (WCJS) will take place at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (6 – 10 August 2017). The Congress will mark 70 years since the First World Congress of Jewish Studies.
The European Association for Jewish Studies (EAJS) is glad to announce a travel bursary programme for up to twenty five Full Members of the EAJS to attend the World Congress of Jewish Studies in order to present a paper. This bursary programme, funded through the Association and a generous donor, offers the equivalent of £300.00 to contribute to travel and/or accommodation expenses.
The World Union of Jewish Studies (WUJS) has extended its deadline for proposal submissions to the World Congress of Jewish Studies to 15 December 2016 (and 30 November for Round Table sessions). Correspondingly, the EAJS is also extending its deadline for applications to the EAJS WCJS travel bursary programme to 15 December 2016.
Academic excellence will be the key criterion. Applicants based in countries with a lower than the median European income will take precedence in case of applications of comparable academic quality. Applicants will need to confirm that they do not have sufficient institutional support to cover the expenses of attending the WCJS.
The updated Call for Papers for the WCJS can be found here.
Applicants will be requested to submit the following:
- a letter of application;
- a short C.V. including details of the current academic affiliation (max. two pages including a selection of up to five publications) ;
- the paper abstract submitted to the World Union for Jewish Studies; and
- one letter of recommendation by a full or associate member of the EAJS.
All application materials should be submitted in English.
To apply for the bursary, please go here: EAJS WCJS Bursary Application Form.
The award of a bursary is dependent on the acceptance of the submitted paper proposal by the WUJS – all applicants will be prompted to submit documentation of the acceptance letter early in February 2017.
Details of the Congress may be found on the WUJS website, here: http://www.jewish-studies.org/.
Successful applicants will be notified not later than 28 February 2017. The bursary will be transferred in June 2017, after the successful candidates have provided the necessary bank details and documentation of travel and/or accommodation reservations.
During the Congress, the WUJS and the EAJS will host a reception for all successful applicants.
